Men's Hoops Hosts Carver Bible In Non-Conference Finale

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After a convincing win over Gulf South Conference East Division foe West Florida on Wednesday, the University of West Alabama men’s basketball team will step away from league play to close out the non-conference slate against Carver Bible College on Saturday, Feb. 6. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. at UWA’s Pruitt Hall.

The Tigers moved to .500 on the season (11-11) and 2-4 in GSC play with their 87-67 win over UWF in their last outing. UWA looks to improve on its 9-7 record this season in games outside of the league. The Cougars of Carver Bible College enter Saturday’s affair after dropping their previous two contests to Martin Methodist College and Lee University.
Senior Jason Swanson leads a trio of Tigers who average double figures in the scoring column. The Troy, Ala.-forward averages 15 points a game and pulls down 9.9 rebounds per contest. Against UWF, he tallied his 11th double-double of the season with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Senior guard Richard Sirju, the GSC’s three-point shooting percentage leader, contributes 14 points per game and averages at least two treys per contest. Sophomore Alquan Mendenhall adds 11.3 points to UWA’s 70.1 scoring output. The Tigers are out-rebounding the opposition by a +3.4 margin.
Following Saturday’s affair, UWA returns to GSC action at North Alabama on Thursday, Feb. 11. Tip off is set for 8 p.m.
