Tigers Draw Split with Lambuth

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama baseball team drew a split against Lambuth on Saturday afternoon. UWA (15-9) claimed the opening game 4-2 but fell in the night cap 3-1.
 
The Tigers and LU (23-6) conclude the weekend series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 104.9 FM and at www.uwaathletics.com. Live stats and a video stream of the game will also be available on UWA’s official athletic website. 

Kevin Deese led the Red and White at the plate as the Fosters, Ala.-native went 3-for-7, including a triple and homerun. The junior outfielder also tallied two RBI in the twinbill, to lead the team. 

Deese was the only run in the second game of the doubleheader as he crossed the dish in the second inning off a Sam McCormack sacrifice fly to right field. The Eagles answered with two runs in the third to take the lead. Bart White singled up the middle to score Mitch McClay and Mitch Thomson. The Blue and White added an insurance run the sixth when Brent Young touched home on a Kirk Waligora base hit to right. 

Cory Lopez (1-4) took the loss on the mound with four innings of work. The Walker, La.-native allowed two runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and four walks. Brent Ebinger (6-1) garnered the win on the mound for LU. The Eagle starter pitched all seven innings, allowing a run on four hits along with four strikeouts and three walks. 

UWA rallied back two runs down in the third inning to claim the opening game victory. The Tigers nipped the 2-0 lead to 2-1 with a run in the fourth as Colin McKeen scored on a wild pitch. The Red and White followed that with a pair of runs in the fifth. Brian Simone tied the game at 2-all as he crossed the dish on a Deese tripled down the right field line. Deese scored on the play as Mitch Thomson committed a throwing error to give UWA a 3-2 lead. Deese put the Red and White up by two runs in the seventh with a homerun to right field. 

Colter Millican (4-1) pitched eight strong innings, allowing just two runs on six hits. The Brighton, Tenn-native fanned four Eagle batters and walked one. Brian Burgess (5) picked up the save with the final inning on the bump as he sat down two of LU’s final three batters.
