Softball Ranked Eighth In NCAA South Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. The NCAA Division II Women's Softball Committee released the initial regional rankings for the 2010 season on Thursday.  The University of West Alabama softball team is ranked eighth in the South Region.

 

The Tigers (27-13) enter this weekend's activity against West Florida and Valdosta State with a 17-12 record in region play.  UWA and UWF will square off on Friday at Noon on the UWA campus before VSU visits the UWA Softball Complex on Saturday.

 

UWA is one of five Gulf South Conference teams in the top 10 in the region.  VSU sits atop the rankings, followed by Alabama in Huntsville.  Rollins, who the Tigers defeated n March 7, enters the rankings in the third spot.  The Argonauts of UWF rank fourth in the standings. Sunshine State Conference members Nova Southeastern and Barry are listed fifth and seventh respectively.  UWA topped NSU 11-6 at the West Georgia Invitational.  Arkansas at Monticello (6th) and Ouachita Baptist (9th) represent the GSC West.
