INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Entering the final weekend of the regular season, the University of West Alabama softball team maintained its regional ranking, released by the NCAA Division II Women's Softball Committee on Wednesday. UWA is listed ninth in the South Region in this week's ranking.
The Tigers added a region win this past weekend with a 3-1 win over North Alabama on Sunday. UWA moved to 38-21 overall on the season after a Tuesday split at Millsaps College. The Red and White have recorded 23 in-region wins. The Tigers head into the weekend tied with UNA for the fourth and final Gulf South Conference Tournament spot.
GSC East rivals Valdosta State and UAH swapped places atop the poll this week after VSU swept the Chargers this past weekend. Arkansas at Monticello, the lone GSC West representative, is ranked fourth on the poll, while West Florida remained steady in the five slot. Four Sunshine State Conference members are among the top 10, along with Palm Beach Atlantic.
UWA visits nationally-ranked UAH on Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m. before trekking to Carrollton, Ga. on Sunday for a Noon CST match up with UWG.
