LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama football team added another pre-season poll ranking to its tally for the 2010 season. UWA has been tabbed 12th nationally by USA Today.
The Tigers, who finished the 2009 season with an 8-5 record and a second round appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs, are ranked 23rd in the Lindy's Preseason Top 25 poll and 24th in the Sporting News Preseason Top 25 poll.
Among UWA's 2010 opponents defending Gulf South Conference Champion North Alabama is ranked third in the poll while Delta State nabbed the 24th spot. Defending Division II National Champion Northwest Missouri State was picked as the pre-season No. 1 in all three polls and last year's runner-up, Grand Valley State, was second in all three.
West Alabama opens the season on Saturday, Aug. 28 against NAIA member Shorter College in Demopolis, Ala. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
