LIVINGSTON, Ala. – With less than ten days remaining until the RockTenn Classic in Demopolis, Ala., the University of West Alabama football team is winding down its fall camp and preparing to begin its game preparation for Shorter on Aug. 28.
“I am pleased with where we are at right now,” UWA Head Coach Bobby Wallace said. “We’ve gone light the last couple of days to help them get their legs back. We did have more tackling today with the short scrimmage than we’ve had the last few days. It will probably be the last tackling we do before the game. We will begin our preparation for Shorter on Monday.”
The Tigers’ season opener will be held at Demopolis High School Stadium with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. The Classic will be broadcasted on ESPN 104.9-FM with the broadcast beginning at approximately 6:15 p.m.
UWA enters the 2010 season with recognition in four pre-season national polls. The team appeared in the 2010 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Pre-Season Division II Coaches’ Poll and the USA Today Pre-Season Poll ranked 12th while the Lindy’s Pre-Season poll has the Tigers in 23rd and 24th in the Sporting News Preseason Top 25. UWA was selected second by the Gulf South Conference head coaches in the conference’s pre-season poll, marking the team’s highest pre-season ranking since 1976.
