LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- A season opening clash at South Alabama highlights the 2011 West Alabama football schedule which features six home contests and three opponents who were among the 2010 NCAA Division II playoff field.
“As we transition into Will Hall's first season as head coach here at UWA, we are excited to have such an attractive football schedule with six home games in 2011,” said UWA Director of Athletics Dr. E. J. Brophy. “With three opponents who made the 2010 playoffs (Valdosta State, North Alabama and Delta State), a team that has never lost a football game (South Alabama) and another coached by Bill Curry (Georgia State) we feel that this schedule will be one that our fans will really enjoy."
“We are excited about the upcoming 2011 season,” said UWA Head Coach Will Hall. “The Gulf South Conference will be brutal as always. We are eager to open the campaign at South Alabama. It will be a great opportunity for our players and fans to experience football at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.”
The Tigers lid lifter is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 1 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. UWA then returns home for two consecutive outings inside Tiger Stadium – beginning with a Sept. 10 meeting with Lambuth. The Red and White will then face Concordia College of Selma on Sept. 17 before traveling to Arkansas Tech on Sept. 24.
After a pair of home contests against Harding (Oct. 1) and Southern Arkansas (Oct. 8), the Tigers make back-to-back trips to the state of Georgia with an Oct. 15 affair with Valdosta State and Oct. 22 against West Georgia. The Tigers conclude the October slate with a home showdown against in-state rival North Alabama on the 29th.
The final two regular season games on the calendar are a Nov. 5 meeting at Delta State before concluding the schedule on Nov. 12 at home against Georgia State.
The Gulf South Conference retains the right to change dates and opponents on the schedule due to potential television implications.
