NICEVILLE, Fla. – The University of West Alabama men's basketball team concluded its run at the Tom Thumb GSC/SSC Crossover with a weekend split after falling to Lynn University by a score of 78-57 Saturday afternoon.
A day after a strong defensive effort against Barry University on Friday, the Tigers allowed Lynn to shoot just over 51 percent Saturday, allowing the Knights to go 10-of-22 from behind the arc. Meanwhile, UWA hit just two three-point shots on the day in a 50 percent shooting performance.
The Tigers never recovered from a dismal first half, as the Knights held UWA to just 22 shots from the field and just 25 points in the opening 20 minutes of play. Lynn put up 33 attempts from the field to build a steep 44-25 halftime advantage.
In the second half, coach Mike Newell's squad played the Knights a little closer, putting up 32 second-half points, while Lynn scored 34 in the closing 20 minutes. It was not enough though as the Knights held on for the 78-57 victory.
For the game, the Tigers had just two players shoot in double figures with
Ryan Fitch's 13 points to go along with
Josh Spears' 10 on the day.
Lynn was also able to capitalize on Tiger miscues Saturday afternoon, scoring 33 points off of 17 UWA turnovers, while the Knights had 28 second-chance points compared to West Alabama's 10.
