Men's Basketball Signs Transfer Dickson

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Announced by head men's basketball coach Nick Woodruff, the University of West Alabama men's basketball program has signed Maurice Dickson to the program and will join the team for the 2023-24 season. 

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Dickson spent the 2022-23 season with region foe Albany State University (Ga.). Playing all 28 contests with the Golden Rams, he averaged 10.4 points and 6.8 rebounds in nearly 32 minutes on the floor. Of his 190 rebounds, 78 came off the offensive glass. 

Posting three double-doubles, he tallied a season-high 15 rebounds against Livingstone (N.C.) and 22 points at SIAC rival Tuskegee (Ala.). 

Before his time in Georgia, he spent the 2021-22 season with the University of Pikeville (Ky.), where he was named an Honorable Mention on the All Mid-South Conference team. Playing in all 28 games for the Bears, he scored over nine points a game in 23 minutes and added 108 rebounds for the NAIA institution. 

Dickson began his collegiate career at Cleveland State Community College (Tenn.), where he played two seasons for the Cougars. The 2019 season saw the team win the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) Tournament and qualify for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Championship. 

In 46 career games, he posted 10.1 points per game and a 44.6 field goal percentage. On ball control, he picked up an average of 5.2 rebounds per contest. In addition, he was named to the All-TCCAA East Division as a first-teamer.
