A New Season Begins for UWA Cross Country

LIVINGSTON, Ala.- Cross Country season has arrived in Livingston, and the men's and women's squads are already preparing for strong competition from members of the Gulf South Conference and beyond.

The men's team returns strong veteran runners to the squad with the likes of Seniors Seth Lord, David Hubert, Jason Lynch, and Graduate Nathan Tucker. Junior Kayley Key headlines a gritty young squad of competitors from the women's squad.

The first meet of the year kicks off with a roster of strong teams from all over the region at the City Auto Memphis Twilight Classic on September 2nd. Notable competitors include fellow GSC Squad Union (TN), and other in-state teams like Alabama and North Alabama. The women's competition will begin at 9:20 p.m., followed by the men at 10 p.m.

West Alabama is scheduled to run at three more regular season meets, The Falcon Classic in Montevallo, Alabama on September 15th, The Asics Invitational in Fairburn, Georgia on September 30th, and the UAH Chargers Invitational in Huntsville, Alabama on October 8th.

"We're just excited to get out there and compete against some great competition. The teams are just ready to run on a track that isn't ours and get this season rolling, we're excited to work." said Head Coach Sterling Martin.

To close out the season, the Tigers will travel to Huntsville on October 21st for the GSC Championships hosted by UAH, followed by the NCAA South Region Championships on November 4th, hosted by the University of Montevallo.
